Giorgio Frassineti ( 29 of September of 1964 in Forlì ) is a political Italian Democratic Party (PD) and, since 2009, the mayor of Predappio .
In 1990, Giorgio Frassineti finished his studies of Geography at the University of Bologna .
In June 2009 he was elected as the representative of a center-left coalition party, the Predappio alclade, Mussolini ‘s birthplace . The municipality with 6000 inhabitants is located in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna .
Frassineti is committed to preserving the historic buildings of Predappio, especially those that had been built since the 1920s. The Mayor advocates a greater cultural and economic commitment of his municipality to reconcile with his fascist history. He is a member of the Association for the Protection and Conservation of Fascist Architectural Heritage.
Frassineti is the author of the idea of establishing an international documentation center of the twentieth century.
Center of Documentation of Century XX
This concept has as its goal the confrontation with the fascist history itself and, in addition, the history of the 20th century in general. The project provides for 1200 m2 of permanent exhibition area under the direction of the Institute of Parri in Bologna. The project also includes colanoration with existing projects such as the House of Responsibility and the Austrian Service Abroad. In the future the volunteers of the latter association could also work in the Documentation Center of the 20th Century in Predappio.
In September 2011 Giorgio Frassineti was invited by Andreas Maislinger and Oscar Branko Lustig to the twentieth Days of Contemporary History of Braunau with the theme “Difficult Inheritance”. On July 19, 2016, the Predappio council officially gave permission to carry out the documentation center at the Parti Institute with a budget of 3,000,000 euros needed. 2,000,000 euros of the budget will be paid by the Region of Emilia-Romagna and by the EU.
For his extraordinary commitment to give a new image to Predappio Giorgio Frassineti was honored on September 3, 2016 with the Austrian Holocaust Memorial Award .
