The Party of Death (book)

The Party of Death: Democrats, Media, Courts, and Disregard for Human Life is a book written by Ramesh Ponnuru. The hardcover edition, published by Editorial Regnery, was released on April 24, 2006 and consists of 320 pages. 1 Controversially entitled, work is a statement of positions concerning the right to life such as abortion and euthanasia , focusing on the change of position of the Democratic Party of the United States , from being Provida to pro- choice .

Jonah Goldberg, editor-in-chief of NRO, states that “Ponnuru scrupulously clings to non-religious arguments, accessible to all, but that has not stopped critics from accusing them of being unacceptably” religious “, while others have complained That Ponnuru is too rational. “Again, it seems that the real sin of Ponnuru is not how he says things, but he says them completely.” 2

John Derbyshire writes: “The right to life becomes as presentable as possible in The Death Party , with a script that is both attractive and lucid … The right to life advocates are welcoming The Party of Death with much joy, however, and they are right in doing so, as it is an exceptionally fine piece of controversial writing in support of their … cause …. The Death Party is obviously inspired by religious beliefs. Philosophical passages strictly follow the Golden Rule of religious apologetics, which is: The conclusion is known in advance, and the task of the intellectual is to erect arguments of support. ” 3

Possibly in response to these accusations of having an openly religious point of view in addressing the subject, Ponnuru states: “I have made a demonstration of reasoning, but my conclusions have been conveniently aligned with the teachings of my church. Abortion has not changed since I was agnostic … It is true that I am a Catholic. It is also true that I believe that my church’s teaching on abortion is reasonable, healthy and correct.Because I have come to believe that Catholicism is true, after all, that I became Catholic … If you do not believe that Catholic teachings were true, it would not be Catholic. 4

The Daily Show host , Jon Stewart , interviewed Ponnuru on May 17, 2006 as part of a promotional tour for his book. The Colbert Report host , Stephen Colbert , reported that he interviewed Ponnuru on August 14, 2006.
