Ignacio Carrasco de Paula ( Barcelona , 25 of October of 1937 ) of the Prelature of Opus Dei , is a bishop Spanish charged in the Roman Curia as President emeritus of the Pontifical Academy for Life .
He graduated in philosophy, medicine and surgery. He received his priestly ordination on 8 of August of 1966 in Rome to join the presbyterate of the Prelature of Opus Dei , which already belonged since his college years. From 1984 to 1994 he was a member of the Ethics Committee for Clinical Trials at the Hospital of the Child Jesus of Rome and Rector of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross , led by Opus Dei. From 2002 to 2009 he was a professor of bioethics at the Catholic University of Sagrado Cozarón in Rome and there he was director of the Institute of Bioethics.
He has published numerous articles on the field of bioethics, medical ethics and legal medicine.
The 30 of June of 2010 , he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI President of the Pontifical Academy for Life . The September 15 is given the episcopal dignity. He was consecrated titular Bishop of Tapso on October 9 of the same year by Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone , accompanied by the cardinals Agostino Vallini and Franc Rodé .
