9420 Squadron

The 9420 Squadron or Oka Squadron consisted of two units formed in 1942 to support the Imperial Japanese Army in the southern region: Umeoka Unit, which specialized in bubonic plague , and Unit Kono, which specialized in malaria . 1

Under General Kitagawa Masataka , 9420 Squadron was based in Tanpoi Hospital Permai, Johor , near the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula , 13 kilometers northeast of Johor Bahru and Singapore . 2 Some evidence suggests that there were also subunits operating in Thailand , focusing on other diseases.
